Where Do You Get Your Daily Dose of Beauty?
A Little Dose of Beauty:
Donna Miscolta's Books
I get my daily dose of beauty in lots of places, but one of the best places has always been in books.
Living in Seattle in the 1980s and early 1990s was really special. It had all the benefits of a big city, but still somehow felt like a small town. It was also a pretty wonderful place to be a single mom, partly because there was always something interesting, creative, and free to do.
One of my favorite things was going to book readings, especially back when Elliott Bay Book Company was still in Pioneer Square. That’s where I met Donna Miscolta, a beautiful person and a truly gifted writer.
I always looked forward to reading anything Donna wrote. She has that rare kind of skill with words that makes you appreciate language all over again. Not in a stuffy, “you need an English degree to understand this” kind of way. More like, “Oh, this is what beautiful storytelling feels like.”
I have always been a reader. I love all kinds of writing, from great ads and magazine articles to catalogs — anyone else remember J. Peterman? — to beach reads and beautifully crafted literary fiction. And Donna’s work sits in that beautiful sweet spot for me: literary fiction that is beautifully written, deeply human, and still completely readable.
So, if you find yourself in need of a little beauty, I hope you’ll buy one of her books.
You can find Donna Miscolta’s books on Amazon, but if you love paperbacks or hardcovers, please consider buying through the publisher links on Donna’s website. That’s usually the best way to support authors and their publishers when you have the option.
And while you’re there, take a little time with Donna’s blog, too. It’s full of stories from her life, and they’re absolutely worth reading when you just want a quiet little dose of delicious writing.
Please stop by Donna Miscolta's web site when you get a chance. I think you’ll be glad you did.
